Business Development Manager - Mid-Atlantic USA

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for developing and closing sales opportunities in the ICONICS Mid-Atlantic USA Territory, including states of Virginia, District of Columbia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Key objective is meeting orders goals within the territory. Primary responsibilities are to identifying new prospects and specify ICONICS solutions into projects with associated activities.  The BDM will drive channel business development through distributors and systems integrators including Mitsubishi Electric sales channels with joint marketing plans for promotion and lead generation.  The BDM takes the lead to develop opportunities with key End Users, Design Engineering firms, and Systems Integrators to garner preference for ICONICS and get written into project specifications.   The BDM is also responsible for developing partner alliances with Microsoft, OPC Foundation and other third-party companies and groups that can influence preference for ICONICS solutions within the Territory. The BDM will work with the global solution sales, technical support, and quality professional services teams to meet Territory goals.


  • The primary measurement is on orders closed in the Territory.  BDM must meet or exceed the assigned annual orders (sales) objectives for the Territory, and for key products, services and target industries as assigned.
  • Work with design engineering and consulting companies to get ICONICS products specified.
  • Collaborate with Mitsubishi Electric sales organization and channels to develop synergy.
  • Develop business around top opportunities.  Maintain a list of top prospects.  Maintain continuous contact with customer until deal is closed.  Assure that all proposals, correspondence and technical issues are addressed in a timely fashion. 
  • Represent the company at key market events such as seminars, exhibitions, industry organization meetings and SI gatherings.  Provide sales presentations and product demonstrations as necessary.
  • Develop sales channels and system integrator partners.  Get them to focus on promoting ICONICS and improve their skills and overall relationship to achieve orders objectives.

Further, the BDM is expected to:

  • Provide a weekly summary report to management on activities, sales opportunities and schedule/plans.  
  • Use the Company’s CRM system for lead follow-up, opportunity management, quotations,  and orders.
  • Provide feedback to product management and engineering teams for future product enhancements
  • Follow Company policies, including the Company Travel Policy for all travel and customer entertainment.
  • Seek reference information from customers and document application details for use by ICONICS.


  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline.  Preferred: Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Candidates must have a competency in Industrial Automation applications
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office tools such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience providing sales or business development for software products
  • Preferred candidates have extensive knowledge of control systems or operational informatics in key industries.

Flexibility to travel up to 50% within the territory.
