Russ Agrusa recently joined Thom Singer for an episode of the Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do podcast, where he shared fascinating stories about the origins of ICONICS and how automation systems have evolved over the years.

On Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do, Singer, who will be the emcee at our 2020 Worldwide Customer Summit in October, interviews entrepreneurs, “solopreneurs”, and business leaders, and explores the gap between potential and results in business.

In this episode, Russ discusses his early days as an Electrical Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Corporation. His work in systems and software engineering inspired him to start ICONICS with a few trusted colleagues, some very supportive wives, and one of the very first personal Dell computers.

Originally, ICONICS’ expertise came from projects and applications in factories, industrial automation, water and power plants, and automobile manufacturers, and quickly expanded to customers like Disney, NASA, and Polaroid. From its modest beginnings in a boiler room in a basement, ICONICS grew into the company it is today, with more than 375,000 installations worldwide and counting 70 percent of Global 500 companies as customers.
